Duder Regional Park is a 148 hectare park situated on the Whakakaiwhara Peninsula that overlooks the Tamaki Strait. This is a regional park that's big on stunning views of the Hauraki Gulf.
Throughout the park there are strategically placed picnic tables that offer the best views while you enjoy a bite to eat. The entrance to the park itself is close to the village Clevedon which is a good place to stop to pick up any extra items for a picnic.
The park has a few walking trails with the primary trail being the 'Farm Loop', a two hour return walk that leads you through rolling farmland with grazing cattle and sheep, and some of the best views you are likely to experience in Auckland. As the trail winds its way close to the peninsula edge, you'll enjoy stunning panoramic views include many of the Hauraki Gulf Islands.
Off the 'Farm Loop Trail' are a couple of extra walking paths - 'Whakakaiwhara Pa Walk', is a one hour return walk to the very end of the peninisula while the 'Coastal Walk', is a 35 minutes return walk that leads onto Umupuia Beach which you can walk across at low tide.
Other activities that can be enjoyed in the park include mountain biking, horse riding (by permit only), fishing and swimming during high tide. Duder Regional Park's resident birdlife includes tui, grey warbler, kingfisher and silvereye.
